Happy Birthday, Dad (Eliot Kay/Kozarsky CPP)

Today, I want to pay tribute to my late father, Eliot Kozarsky, whose commitment and values as a packaging professional continue to inspire me. As a proud member of the Society of Packaging & Packaging Handling Engineers in 1977-78, Eliot affirmed his solemn vow.

Engineers Creed

“Engineer’s Creed. As a Professional Engineer, I dedicate my professional knowledge and skill to the advancement and betterment of Human Welfare.

I pledge:

To give the utmost of performance;

To participate in none but honest enterprise;

To live and work according to the laws of man and the highest standards of professional conduct;

To place service before profit, the honor and standing of the profession before personal advantage, and the public welfare above all other considerations;

In humility and with need for Divine Guidance,

I make this pledge.”

This blog serves as both a tribute to my father’s legacy as a Hall of Fame, lifetime certified professional member of the packaging industry and a reminder of the importance of institutions in society.

Recent times have shown a concerning trend. Many seem to forget, or perhaps never knew, the significance of standards, rules, and honor to the fabric of our community.

At T.H.E.M., we have been very fortunate to attract team players who know their actions can make a difference. Eliot held this as a core value. The notion that “nothing matters” can be damaging; every action has the potential to impact our world. Establishing and upholding standards is essential across all professions, not just in high-stakes arenas like healthcare and aviation, but in packaging.

When it comes to packaging, our role in delivering essential goods and services is paramount. We must never cut corners when health and safety are on the line. All aspects of life improve when we can trust that our fellow citizens will act responsibly. This true when on the road or in helping deliver the products we consume. Institutions have always been important. They serve as the backbone of our society, and their relevance has never waned. As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation in packaging and beyond, let us remember the foundational principles represented by leaders like my father.

Together, we can ensure a future marked by integrity, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!
